This really makes me want to watch Solaris! A conscious ocean is such a cool concept. I’ve never seen a Tarkovsky before. It sounds a bit like Villeneuve might have been inspired by it for Arrival.
Thanks, Jenny! ☺️ Yes! It is probably my all time favorite science fiction story, next to Dune, of course! Haha. I would definitely recommend starting with this of Tarkovsky’ work if you were interested in watching his stuff! And yes! I could totally see Villeneuve being inspired by him! They vibe on a similar wavelength, and Arrival has similarly a strong atmosphere or “ipseitas” as we have been reading about. 😉 Weirdly and surprisingly (in a good way) Christopher Nolan was inspired by Tarkovsky for Oppenheimer!
Oh! It was towards the beginning of the book, the word C.S. Lewis used when describing a state or quality, unity of effect, flavor of atmosphere, etc! ☺️ And let us know if the reading is too much for your schedule, we can always slow down!

I’m a bit behind in reading the chapters because of my schedule, so I don’t know about ipseitas yet.😆But I guess I will soon.
